Dan Biggar: Wales captain to see specialist after knee injury while Gloucester centre Mark Atkinson out for season
Wales will be sweating over the fitness of captain and fly-half Dan Biggar after he suffered a knee injury while playing for Northampton last weekend.
His participation in their Autumn Nations Series games is in doubt after he sustained the problem against Wasps on Sunday, with the Saints issuing an update.
The Premiership side have revealed that Biggar will see a specialist to determine the next steps, which has thrown his participation for Wales into serious doubt.
“Biggar will continue to be assessed by Saints’ medical department over the coming weeks and his condition will be reviewed by a specialist ahead of the autumn internationals,” read a statement.
Losing the 32-year-old for their end-of-year Tests would be a significant setback for Wales as the fly-half has been in excellent form for both club and country.
Compounding coach Wayne Pivac’s concerns is the fact that Liam Williams, Leon Brown and Owen Lane are already out while several other players are doubts.

Wales’ fixture schedule in the Autumn Nations Series sees them face New Zealand on November 5 before further matches against Argentina, Georgia and Australia.
Setback for Gloucester centre
Gloucester have been dealt a major setback after England international centre Mark Atkinson was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
The 32-year-old, who has been a consistent performer for the Cherry and Whites in recent campaigns, suffered the injury against rivals Bath last weekend.
Gloucester won the Premiership game 21-17 at the Recreation Ground.
The West Country outfit released a statement revealing that Atkinson’s injury was “significant” and he will now look to recover ahead of the 2023/24 season.
“We are hugely disappointed to lose someone of Mark’s quality for the remainder of the season,” said a disappointed chief operating officer, Alex Brown.
“He is a key part of our squad and will remain an important voice for us behind the scenes.
“We know that he will be working extremely diligently with our medical team during this period off the pitch to recover as quickly as he can.”
Atkinson has one England cap to his name as he came on as a replacement for Eddie Jones’ outfit in the match against Tonga at Twickenham late last year.
