Your Guide to Wednesday’s Ligue 1 Action
Wednesday: Troyes vs St Etienne (18:00 GMT)
Struggling Troyes face a tough challenge against in-form St Etienne at the Stade de l’Aube on Wednesday. The hosts have yet to win a game this season, losing three and drawing three in their opening six fixtures. They head into this match on the back of two consecutive defeats, at home to Caen and away at Angers.
St Etienne, meanwhile, are flying at the moment, with four league wins on the trot. The visitors have claimed all three points against Lorient, Bastia, Montpellier and Nantes so far and are now aiming to add Troyes to that list. A victory in this one will see Christophe Galtier’s men move to within one point of current league leaders PSG.
Wednesday: Lorient vs Caen (18:00 GMT)
Lorient meet Caen at the Stade du Moustoir with both sides looking for their third consecutive victory. The home side have turned a corner recently, recovering from a rocky start to beat both Angers and Monaco in their last two outings.
Caen, meanwhile, have been one of the surprise packages in the league so far, winning four of their opening six fixtures. Patrice Garande’s men won their opening two matches, before going on to suffer defeats against Nice and Lyon. The visitors soon recovered, though, and have despatched Troyes and Montpellier since the international break. A third win in a row could take them as high as second in the standings.

Wednesday: Gazelec Ajaccio vs Rennes (18:00 GMT)
Gazelec Ajaccio will be aiming to end their five match losing streak as Rennes visit the Stade Ange Casanova on Wednesday. The hosts have found life in the top-flight tough going so far, losing all but one of their opening six games. Their only point so far came from a goalless draw against Troyes on the opening weekend, although there was some good news for Thierry Laurey’s men at the weekend, as they scored their first goal of the campaign in a 2-1 loss at Guingamp.
Rennes, meanwhile, saw their winning run halted at the weekend as Lille claimed a 1-1 draw at Roazhon Park. However, they have still lost just once so far this season and can close the gap at the top of the table to a single point if they emerge victorious in this match.
Wednesday: Lyon vs Bastia (18:00 GMT)
Lyon will be targeting their first league win of the season as Bastia visit the Stade de Gerland on Wednesday. The hosts have made a slow start to the new campaign, winning only two of their opening six games and head into this match on the back of two consecutive draws, against Lille and Marseille respectively.
Bastia, meanwhile, are in a slump of their own, losing each of their last three outings. Defeats to St Etienne, Marseille and Nice have seen Ghislain Printant’s side drop to 15th in the table, and the manager will be eager to stop the rot as soon as possible.
Wednesday: Nice vs Bordeaux (18:00 GMT)
Nice will be looking to build on their win at the weekend as they take on Bordeaux at the Allianz Riviera. The hosts recorded their second victory of the campaign by beating Bastia 3-1 away from home on Saturday and will be aiming to take advantage of an out-of-sorts Bordeaux in this fixture.
The visitors have made a sluggish start to the campaign, winning just one of their opening six. Draws have been a problem for Willy Sagnol’s men so far, sharing the points with St Etienne, Lille, PSG and Toulouse and whilst the fixture list has been unkind to Bordeaux in the first month or so, they need to start picking up wins soon if they are to avoid being left behind.
Wednesday: Toulouse vs Marseille (20:00 GMT)
In Wednesday’s last game, Toulouse face off against Marseille at the Stadium Municipal. The hosts have failed to kick on from their opening weekend win over St Etienne, failing to win any of their five league matches since. They head into this match 17th in the table, having drawn their last two outings against Reims and Bordeaux respectively.
Marseille season has been far from dull so far, with the weekend’s ill-tempered draw against Lyon just another chapter in their crazy start to the campaign. The chaos hasn’t been much help to their on-field results though, as Michel’s side have won just two of their opening six and currently sit 12th in the standings. A win would certainly be most welcome in this one.
