Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp Set Their Own Model Code Of Conduct, Say No Campaigns In The Last 48 Hours Of Polling
According to the Election Commission’s model code of conduct, political parties cannot indulge in any kind of public campaign in the last 48 hours of polling. This has been a set practice since the beginning and it was said to facilitate the voters to make an independent decision before they go to the polling booths.
But with the advent of social media, political parties were still able to bypass the 48-hours deadline and continues their campaign online even on the day of the vote.
