1857 Revolt Began 161 Years Ago On This Day, Here’s What Marked India’s First War Of Independence

Today is 161st anniversary of what is known as the first war of independence, that is, 1857 revolt. It was indeed an unprecedented event which brought lakhs of Indians who shunned their religious identities together and collective battle for the freedom of India was fought.

Though the revolt could not yield desired results, it certainly gave the British jitters as they had never expected Indians whom the British had colonised while taking advantage of their animosity against one another, to fight as one.
