Sheriff Says Cannibal Corpse Guitarist Charged Deputy With Knife
NORTHDALE, FL — The lead guitarist for the death metal band Cannibal Corpse has been arrested for aggravated assault after reportedly charging a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy with a knife.
According to the sheriff’s office, shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, Patrick O’Brien, 53, of Stonepointe Place in Tampa, entered a home in the 4700 block of Windflower Circle in the Northdale area without permission.
The residents ordered him to leave and O’Brien reportedly pushed one of the residents to the ground and fled into the back yard.
When a deputy arrived, O’Brien ran toward him with a knife, according to the deputy. He was subdued with a taser and taken into custody.
He is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and burglary of an occupied dwelling with assault or battery.
A Hillsborough County judge set his bond at $50,000 Tuesday morning. O’Brien is required to complete a drug test before he’s able to bond out of jail.
Formed in 1988 in Buffalo, New York, Cannibal Corpse is now based in Tampa. O’Brien joined the band in 1997 after playing in the heavy metal band Nevermore. With album sales of more than two million, Cannibal Corpse in the top-selling death metal band of all time.
The band’s 14th album, Red Before Black, was released on Nov. 3, 2017.
