Dustin Rhodes Will Face Cody Rhodes at AEW Double or Nothing
Double or Nothing will be the first major event held under the All Elite Wrestling banner. This new promotion has promised to “change the world” ever since it was announced back on January 1st, and AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes is one of the top names in charge. Rhodes will be working behind the scenes in AEW, but he is also set to appear for the promotion as a talent. His opponent for Double or Nothing has intentionally been kept a secret up until today. The official All Elite Wrestling Twitter account promised yesterday that Cody’s opponent would finally be revealed during a special bonus episode of “The Road to Double or Nothing” on YouTube, and sure enough, Rhodes’ opponent for the show is now set.
It has been announced that Cody’s half-brother, Dustin Rhodes, will face him at Double or Nothing on May 25th. The only hint that Cody gave away when it comes to his opponent for the show was that it was somebody very close and personal to him. It was first reported by Pro Wrestling Sheet that Dustin Rhodes would be wrestling Cody at AEW’s first show next month. Dustin would go on to deny that report, but that was evidently just a smokescreen. Dustin Rhodes is wrestling as himself since the Goldust character is owned by WWE, so this match will be about as personal as it can get for the Rhodes brothers. It will be interesting to see what they can do together in the ring during Double or Nothing.
Cody Rhodes and Dustin Rhodes have publicly stated that they wanted to work together for a number of years now. Goldust vs. Stardust took place during WWE’s Fastlane pay-per-view back in 2015, but this will be their first singles match featuring the two brothers wrestling as themselves. This also obviously confirms that Dustin Rhodes is now finished with WWE, which had been rumored for weeks now. There is no word on whether or not Dustin plans on continuing his career with All Elite Wrestling after Double or Nothing or if this is just a one-off match. Either way, fans can look forward to seeing these two brothers go at it during AEW’s Double or Nothing event on May 25th live at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
