The Usos Turn Heel & Injure Gable; New SD! Tag-Tourney Matches At Backlash
Things got hectic in the latest round of the SmackDown Live Tag-Team Title Tournament on the WWE Backlash “go-home” edition of the show this week.
On Tuesday night, the final two semifinal tournament matches took place, with a couple of twists. The team of Heath Slater and Rhyno defeated The Hype Bros to advance to the finals, while American Alpha defeated The Usos in a quick match to advance, only to have the rug pulled out from under them.
After the quick win for American Alpha, longtime WWE tag-team veterans The Usos turned heel, viciously assaulting the former NXT Tag-Team Champions after losing to them in the tournament match.
On the “Talking Smack” post-show immediately after SmackDown Live, it was announced that due to the post-match attack from The Usos, Chad Gable suffered an MCL sprain that has effectively knocked American Alpha out of the tournament.
It was announced that as a result, The Usos will take on The Hype Bros at WWE Backlash, with the winning team advancing to face the team of Heath Slater and Rhyno later in the pay-per-view to determine the first SmackDown Live Tag-Team Champions.
WWE Backlash takes place this Sunday, September 11, 2016 from the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia.
