Daniel Cormier: “I Wish I Could Be in the Royal Rumble This Year”
UFC star Daniel Cormier, who will be fighting Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 220 one week before next month’s WWE Royal Rumble PPV, made headlines earlier this week when he criticized the amount of “spots” in a Young Bucks match. Despite the remarks, Cormier, a lifelong wrestling fan, says he wishes he could enter the 2018 WWE Royal Rumble match.
Cormier recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard, and below is what the UFC star had to say on the Rumble match:
“I wish I could be in the Royal Rumble this year,” said Cormier, who fights on pay per view one week before the Rumble in Boston at UFC 220 against Volkan Oezdemir. “I don’t think they will invite me, but fighting against Oezdemir in Boston works for me, timewise. My fight is in January, which opens up WrestleMania for me this New Orleans–not to compete, but to go.”
Below is what Cormier had to say regarding The Young Bucks:
@philbaroni this is actually pathetic. This is what people wanna see? Go to a god dang gymnastics competition. Suplex, bodyslam, piledriver do some old school wrestling man. DDT, I remember when the frankensteiner was the most you’d ever see someone flip. I say Boo to this BS https://t.co/eF4pnCy0SA

Cody Rhodes was quick to call out Cormier after the comment, issuing the following on Twitter:
It’s not pathetic. The paying audience enjoyed it. UFC is thriving, and pro-wrestling has been going strong since 1920…besides most of y’all ask hunter for a job when the wheels fall off anyway and most are on the comp list at staples…so lay the fuck off. https://t.co/oqKto3a4TK
