On the women’s wrestling “boom” current happening:
“When I first started training I was the only girl in my class. It was all guys and then me. In the state of Florida it seemed like I was only wrestling Leva Bates and Christina Von Eerie for the longest time, because there were no other females down here in my area. And now in my all-girl Lady Warriors class we have 10-15 girls, so there’s definitely been a boom in women’s wrestling. Sometimes with there being more females it hurts you. There are more girls gunning for that same spot. But at the same time I’m very happy to see that opportunities that are opening up for these women.”
“It’s amazing to me, because the girls are crushing it. Not just in WWE and not just in wresting; girls all over the world in every different sport, and more than just sports are crushing it. We’re given these opportunities, we’re taking them by the horns, and we’re exceeding the expectations. That’s why we’re going to continue to get more opportunities.”
On having WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross call her match at the Mae Young Classic:
“I was wrestling a little independent show and I met JR the previously year back in Texas. [It was a] really small show, kind of in and out, but he remembered me. So at the Mae Young Classic I said ‘Hi, my name is Santana nice to meet you,’ and he knew exactly who I was. It was so incredible, I really did not think that he would remember me. Actually, for the last MLW event I was on his podcast, which is definitely on my wrestling bucket list so it was very cool.”
Santana will be in action at MLW: Zero Hour on January 11th as a part of a massively stacked card that is only getting bigger. Fans in the Orlando area or looking to travel can get tickets at this link, and the show will be available for online viewing within a few days of taping live.
“It’s such a stacked card. If you are not in the Orlando area – actually, there are fans that fly in for these events because they are that amazing. The atmosphere and amount of talent that is under one roof. We have so many different athletes with different backgrounds; UFC fighters, an almost 500-pound super heavyweight, high-flyers, brawlers, [some of the best]women’s wrestling in my opinion – MLW has it all.”
