Daily Update: WrestleMania Week day 6, WrestleCon, ROH, WWE signings?
WrestleCon has been absolutely packed this year. We’ve had people claim it seems twice as big as it was last year. Lines for people like Kurt Angle and Great Muta were ridiculously long. In Muta’s case, he was only charging $25 for a picture, which was probably way less than he could have gotten. I heard other people say they likely could have and should have charged more. Shawn Michaels was apparently charging $175 for a pic and autograph the day before, and obviously he’s a huge legendary superstar, but his lines weren’t terribly long but there were people buying. Obviously at something like this you are going to see people who have not aged well at all, but there were a lot of people there who looked great.

SATURDAY NEWS UPDATE

There are WWE scouts at pretty much every show. The word going around is that at least four different independent talents have been offered verbal deals with WWE this weekend.
The Daniel Bryan interview that Dave and Bryan mentioned on today’s Observer Radio, where he pretty much admits he was not ready to retire when he did, is up here.
We now have three shows from Dallas up on the front page, with another Wrestling Observer Radio with Bryan and Dave coming later on tonight.
WWE & Professional Wrestling
Samoa Joe needed six stitches after being busted open last night.
Whoever the WWE World Heavyweight Champion (probably Roman Reigns) and WWE Women’s Champion (probably Sasha Banks) will be on the Today Show on Monday.
John Cena is teasing “never say never” about WrestleMania tomorrow. I would be stunned if he didn’t make an appearance.
For whatever it’s worth, Stardust made a comment about how if he didn’t win the IC Title in the ladder match tomorrow we’d never see the character again. I could have sworn he made a similar cryptic comment of that nature a few months ago but nothing ever became of it.
While many people surely figured this out, Finn Balor’s chainsaw entrance last night was a takeoff of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, since I suppose the demon has to be a slasher wherever he goes. Some WWE production people were overheard talking about how they were told to stick around to see his entrance because it would be awesome, and suffice to say they were underwhelmed.
There are a lot of interesting names supposedly being talked to about making appearances at WrestleMania, including some you would never guess.
For whatever it’s worth, Hulk Hogan claimed he rented a huge party boat and won’t be at WrestleMania. But he’s “recording” it.
We’ll have an NXT report for the TV tapings up later, but apparently they did a Shinsuke Nakamura vs. THE DRIFTER match. Drifter was so hated in the NXT dark match that he was going to play his guitar and sing a song but ultimately just gave up because people were booing so loud.
Speaking of NXT, for information on the upcoming summer tour of the UK and Ireland you can click here.
Story here about Moose of Ring of Honor, where it claims he is poised for a WWE move.
Video interview with Bray Wyatt, and another with AJ Styles. It is very interesting that Bray Wyatt was originally going to wrestle Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania and now he’s in a situation where he’s not even being advertised on the card.
Interview with Kevin Owens about WrestleMania. His father is in town and was at the NXT show on Friday night.
Story here on Renee Young.
The Wrestling Observer Live shows with Mike should also be going up on the site somewhat soon.
Don’t ask Brock Lesnar to make you a vegan omelette. Why would anyone do that anyway?
This week on 6:05 Superpodcast with David Bixenspan and The Great Brian Last, the show focuses on Buzz Sawyer and newly minted WWE Hall of Famer Michael “P.S.” Hayes. For Sawyer, they talk to Jim Cornette about the time Dennis Condrey nearly shot Buzz (as in with a gun) as well as one of Buzz’s wrestling school students about the Buzz Sawyer we didn’t see on TV. For Hayes, after a discussion of his career, you’ll hear an appearance he made on a Dallas radio station in 1984 just days before jumping to the WWF. Plus much more as always.
UFC & Mixed Martial Arts
Nothing new on Daniel Cormier regarding the status of his knee injury and whether there will be a fight with Jones moved to a later date (UFC 200?), a Jones vs. Rumble Johnson match or where they will go from here. Bryan and Dave also discussed this on today’s Observer Radio.
Interestingly, Jon Jones wrote this on Instagram today: Hey, y’all know I’m not into taking last-minute fights. It’s not the way me and my trainers do things. But this last year has been real crazy, and I feel like I owe my fans so much. So, UFC, whether you’ve got a heavyweight, light heavyweight, it doesn’t matter. Let’s keep this main event going. Send them my way.” So it looks like he’s open to anything.
Miscellaneous
Bryan will be at the WrestleCon Supershow tonight, so stop by and say hi if you see him. Dave will be flying home before the Hall of Fame. Thanks so much to everyone we have met on a great weekend.
