President Barack Obama has decided to use military force against Syria, but, in a reversal, he said he will first seek Congressional approval. Obama spoke to the nation in a Rose Garden speech Saturday afternoon.

“I will seek authorization for the use of force from the American people’s representatives in Congress,” Obama said.

Obama said he his decision to use force against Syria does not require UN approval or the support of any other nations.

“I have decided the United States should take military action against Syrian targets,” Obama said. “I’m confident we can hold the Assad regime accountable for their use of chemical weapons.”

The US Congress is on recess and is not scheduled to return to Washington until September 9th.
