Luiz Gustavo refused to continue playing centre-back at Marseille, as Chinese clubs circle

L’Équipe report this morning that Brazilian central midfielder Luis Gustavo informed Marseille manager Rudi Garcia at the beginning of February that he was no longer going to play at centre-back, where the French tactician had consistently been playing him, out of position.

As a result, Gustavo has spent an extensive period of the OM substitutes bench over the last two months and is now looking for an exit door.

With the club facing book-balancing concerns this summer if they fail to qualify for the Champions’ League for the second consecutive season, Gustavo, as one of the top wage earners, appears to be an attractive sale to make, with the 31-year-old having only two years left on his current deal.

The newspaper claims that a pair of Chinese clubs are ready to make a move for Gustavo in summer.
