Man Bites, Drags Dog In Boulder Whole Foods

BOULDER, CO — A man who bit his dog in a Whole Foods store Monday has been taken into custody, Boulder police said. The man is facing concealed weapons charges after he pulled a knife on an officer who was called to the scene, according to police.

Police responded to a report of a man dragging the dog, a pit-bull mix, through the store at 2905 Pearl St.

The man, identified as 49-year-old Chad Rick Naranjo, bit the dog on the ear and pulled the collar so hard that it came off, police said.

When an officer arrived, Naranjo pulled out a knife, but dropped it after the officer drew a Taser, police said.

Police were investigating the attack. Naranjo was not drinking alcohol or taking drugs at the time of the incident, police said.

The dog was taken away from the man and given to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.

The condition of the dog was not known; however, witnesses said the dog did not have any visible wounds from the bite.
