Matt Hardy Promises Return of “Broken” Gimmick in WWE Interview
The Hardy Boyz were both interviewed for a new special on the WWE Network show Bring It to the Table. Corey Graves sat down with the two brothers and asked each of them about a number of interesting topics. Surprisingly enough, one of those questions was about the status of the “Broken” gimmick coming to WWE. The gimmick was a revolutionary and popular one that the brothers used in TNA/Impact Wrestling last year, and numerous fans have been waiting for “Broken” Matt Hardy and Brother Nero to get a run in WWE. Fans have even chanted “Delete” and “Brother Nero” at most of the shows they’ve been on since returning.
Graves asked the Hardys what the status of the characters currently was, to which Matt stated: “I definitely think there is a chance. It’s a work in progress. Unfortunately, due to legal reasons, I really can’t go into it right now but I find it very flattering and humbling that every time we come and wrestle in front of the WWE Universe, they chant and they address it and they acknowledge it.” Matt Hardy said that it felt strange to return as the current “retro” version of himself, but it has been enjoyable for both him and Jeff. What he said next however, should be very reassuring for fans of the “Broken Universe”. He commented: “When it happens, and I’m not going to say if, when it happens, it’s going to be the most exciting thing to hit WWE programming in a long, long time. We’ve got to keep people guessing.”
The “Broken” gimmick has been stuck in purgatory due to a long-documented legal battle between the Hardys and Impact Wrestling’s parent company Anthem. Despite claims from Impact President Ed Nordholm that WWE has no interest in the gimmick, it seems like this interview confirms the opposite. The Hardys have teased and teased the return of the character for months now, hopefully some resolution is coming soon. This is the first time that the gimmick has been acknowledged on WWE programming, so maybe sometime soon, Matt and Jeff Hardy will return to their “Broken” state.
