Mattéo Guendouzi: “Karim Benzema fully deserves his Ballon d’Or.”

Marseille midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi (23) said that he believes that Karim Benzema (34) “fully deserves” his Ballon d’Or in an interview with beIN Sports. 

Benzema won the trophy for the first time during Monday’s ceremony in Paris. He beat Sadio Mané and Kevin de Bruyne to the biggest individual prize in the footballing world, and Benzema’s international teammate Guendouzi believes that it was fully deserved. 

On the childhood dream of winning the highly-coveted trophy, Guendouzi said, “As a child, you dream of becoming a professional footballer you dream of playing for the biggest clubs and of winning trophies. There are lots of dreams. I have managed to achieve some of mine, but I have many others in my mind. I am going to work to achieve them.”

He went on to state that Benzema was deserving of the trophy this year. “He fully deserves it. He has had an extraordinary season both with the French national team and with his club. I think he has had the best season of his career so I think this Ballon d’Or is really deserved. I am very happy for him,” he said.
