Minnesota State Wrestling to Compete at Reno Tournament of Champions

MANKATO, Minn. – Ten wrestlers will represent Minnesota State as it competes Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nev.

This year’s Reno Tounament of Champions field consists of 21 teams including Clackamas (#1 NJCAA), Southern Oregon (#2 NAIA), Montana State-Northern (#3 NAIA), Oklahoma State (#8 NCAA Division I), and Menlo College (#10 NAIA). Two NCAA Division II teams will compete who are ranked, #18 Colorado Mesa University and #19 Upper Iowa.

Minnesota State two-time All-American Cody Quinn (Sr., 165 lbs.) will get his first action of 2014-15. After sitting out last season with an injury and receiving a medical redshirt year, Quinn starts out this season rated fourth in his weight class. Quinn owns a career record of 52-18 with the Mavericks.

Da’Wayne Robertson (Jr., 125 lbs.), who claimed a first-place finish at the UNI Open last Saturday, has placed at every open this season including a win at the Auggie-Adidas Open Nov. 22.

After finishing second at the UNI Open, Malcolm Allen (Jr., 285 lbs.) gets back in the circle. Allen, who is in his first season at Minnesota State after spending two seasons at Iowa Central, owns a 21-6 record in 2014-15 and leads the Mavericks in wins.

After the trip to Nevada, the Mavericks are idle until hosting Minot State University in Taylor Center Jan. 9.
