PSG need €100m in player sales as €80m transfer budget won’t be extended

As reported by L’Équipe, PSG’s €80m off-season transfer budget, reported by the sports daily at the start of the summer, can’t be increased, meaning player sales will be crucial in balancing the books this transfer window.

As it stands, PSG are looking to make five major signings this summer. Porto’s Portuguese international midfielder Vitinha has already joined the Paris club for €40m while talks for four more players are ongoing.

PSG have offered €25m plus bonuses for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike, they’re close to sorting a €60m plus bonuses move for Inter Milan defender Milan Škriniar, the club continue to negotiate over a €35m move for Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca and have offered €10m for Lille man Renato Sanches.

Overall, should PSG be successful in all these cases, without having to increase any of their bids, the club would be spending close to €180m on arrivals this summer. That would mean director Antero Henrique, tasked with selling a list of 11 players who have been deemed surplus to requirements, would need to generate €100m in player sales before September.

Although goalkeeper Alphonse Areola’s €12m move to West Ham last month has helped, the sky-high wages paid by the Paris club have made major sales close to impossible in the past – as previous sporting director Leonardo found out. However, Henrique’s workload may be lessened slightly by Vitinha’s fee being paid in two instalments, according to the sports daily, but is it feasible for Paris to expect such an influx of cash before the end of the window?
