Ric Flair Update: Bowel Partially Removed, Not Leaving Hospital
It appears as though we now know of another update on “The Nature Boy’s” current condition. It was reported over the weekend that Flair had been admitted to a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia for simple “routine monitoring.” Days later, that all seemed to change when Melinda Morris Zanoni, a representative of Flair, revealed that he was in a much more critical condition. He was even put into a medically induced coma to have surgery. Initial reports suggested that he had been suffering from either heart or colon-related issues, but it was later revealed by Zanoni and Flair’s fiancee Wendy Barlow that neither of these surgeries had taken place. Luckily, Sports Illustrated has helped set the record straight.
Justin Barrasso of SI has now reported that a source close to Flair’s family recalls Flair experiencing some chest pains before being admitted to the hospital. After arriving, doctors reportedly discovered an intestinal blockage that ended up requiring part Flair’s bowel to be removed. This is a condition that could be brought on by years and years of excessive alcohol consumption. Flair has certainly never shied away from his addiction to booze over the years. Flair admitted to Sports Illustrated just nine days ago that he has had issues with alcohol, stating: “I’m not going to point my finger at anybody else. My vice was drinking. I didn’t have any pain issues, addiction problems, marijuana, cocaine, nothing like that.” It is unknown if that is the exact cause of this issue at the moment.
Barrasso added that Flair is not ready to be released from the hospital by any means. It was reported that the surgery to have part of his bowel removed led to more issues that could force Flair to stay in the hospital for another month. His family has requested privacy as Flair continues his health battle. Tons of wrestling fans and friends in the business have shown their support for Flair as he continues to fight this health scare. We will be sure to keep updating this story as it continues or if Flair is released from the hospital sometime soon. The report indicates that Ric Flair will be able to pull through this though. As Barrasso put it, “The ‘Dirtiest Player in the Game’ has cheated again, and this time the opponent was his own mortality.”
