Second major announcement to be made on WWE NXT
This week’s episode of NXT won’t feature just one major announcement.
During tonight’s Raw, WWE hyped that NXT general manager William Regal will make two “game-changing announcements” on NXT this Wednesday. It was said that the announcements will continue NXT’s trend of making history in WWE.
One of the announcements figures to be related to the situation with the Women’s Tag Team titles. On NXT last week, WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler retained their titles against NXT’s Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez after WWE authority figure Adam Pearce got involved in the match. Pearce brought a Raw referee out to the ring after there was a ref bump involving the original NXT referee. Even though Kai wasn’t the legal person, the Raw referee called for the bell when she passed out in Baszler’s Kirifuda Clutch.
There was an angle where Regal was shown arguing with Pearce after the finish of the Women’s Tag Team title match. Regal was later interviewed and said he would be making an announcement that will change the landscape of NXT on this week’s show.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE is planning to introduce NXT Women’s Tag Team titles.
Meltzer also confirmed that NXT is planning to hold a two-night TakeOver event on Wednesday, April 7 and Thursday, April 8. The first night would air on the USA Network, while the second night would air on Peacock/WWE Network. It’s been heavily discussed that NXT will move to Tuesdays on the USA Network starting the following week, but that has yet to be announced.
NXT’s top two titles will be on the line this Wednesday night. Finn Balor will defend his NXT Championship against Adam Cole, while Io Shirai will defend her NXT Women’s Championship against Toni Storm. Paul “Triple H” Levesque tweeted tonight: “Two of the biggest title matches in @WWENXT history. Two game-changing announcements. One word for this show …. EPIC!!!! #WWENXT on @USA_Network this Wednesday! #WeAreNXT”
