Tomane not distracted by contract talks

Brumbies winger Joe Tomane says he’s yet to make a call on his Rugby future, but is happy to leave that decision out of his mind while the 2016 season unfolds..

Tomane was reportedly close to signing with French side Montpellier but discussions are still ongoing.

The speedster said he wasn’t worried about his open future.

“I haven’t really been thinking about it,” he said.

“It’s something you probably should ask my management.

“They contact me every now and then but I sort of just put it to the side.  I’m really trying to get a championship, that’s really my  focus.”

He jokingly pointed to his Allianz Stadium hat-trick as a sign his open future was not affecting him on the field and it seems the discussions aren’t affecting his performance in close to a career-best season.

On a more serious note, Tomane said he was simply enjoying being able to play rugby.

“II can tell you it’s not (affecting me),” he said.

“I’m really just trying to embrace everything and just enjoy everything good or bad.”

That hat-trick was the second of his Super Rugby career, in a performance that puts him well and truly among Test calculations.

Tomane leads the Super Rugby competition in clean breaks this season, and has been scintillating in attack, capping his start off with a man-of-the-match performance against the Waratahs.

The speedster said he still had plenty of elements to improve on as the season wears on.

“I’m really just trying to do everything I can,” he said.

“It’s always good to carry the ball but there’s a lot of other aspects of my game that I want to make sure i’m on top of.

“(There’s) a lot of stuff off the ball to make sure I’m on top off.

“The things a lot of people don’t see, our teammates see and they know that helps either get the result that we need or not.”

The Brumbies host the in-form Crusaders next weekend, with a chance to put themselves further ahead in the Australian conference standings.
