The Highlanders were trying to push themselves back in the game during the second period and entered the Hurricanes’ territory hoping to bust the defensive line. Folau Fakatava was looking to switch the play next to the ruck, but Roigard was wise to it.
Roigard somehow managed to intercept the short pass and showed tremendous pace to gallop off and score a brilliant try. The scrum-half’s discipline in defending the fringes of the ruck is what presented him the opportunity. A try that will have coaches everywhere smiling.

It was the visitors who scored the first points of the clash through winger Salesi Rayasi in the 14th minute, with centre Jordie Barrett missing the conversion.

The Highlanders would respond quickly through a powerful surge from number eight Hugh Renton in the 23rd minute as full-back Sam Gilbert added the extras. Barrett would kick a penalty just before the break, rounding out the points in a low-scoring first half.
Once again it was the Hurricanes who started well, with second-row James Blackwell bouncing off the post to score a converted try in the 49th minute before Roigard’s moment of magic only four minutes later as Barrett nailed the conversion.
Momentum was still with the visitors as Rayasi bagged his second with the conversion successful. It was all said and done by the time the tireless Billy Harmon scored for the Highlanders in the 76th minute. However, the try meant that ‘Canes did not secure a bonus point in Dunedin.
