Leinster flanker Josh van der Flier further demonstrated what a special player he is on Sunday when he lined up on the wing and scored a try.

The Ireland international was shifted to the left touchline late in the United Rugby Championship game against Connacht, a match Leinster dominated, 41-12.

Known for possessing numerous strengths, Van der Flier‘s pace came to the fore in a set move as Leinster moved it left to his wing where he finished with ease.

That fine finish rounded off the try-scoring for Leinster as Liam Turner, Brian Deeny, Jordan Larmour (2), Rob Russell and Ryan Baird also crossed the line.

It wasn’t just with ball in hand that Van der Flier impressed as he was also prominent defensively, making a game-high 20 tackles in another all-action shift.

Van der Flier, 29, is once again set to be a pivotal player for Ireland this year, first in the Six Nations and, later in 2023, at the Rugby World Cup in France.

Leinster too will also hope to see him replicate his 2022 when he sealed the World Rugby Player of the Year gong, impressing on a consistent basis in green.

Larmour shows his class

It wasn’t just Van der Flier who stood out against Connacht in the game at the RDS as Ireland international team-mate Larmour showed his attacking quality.

The wing’s performance will please Ireland head coach Andy Farrell with the Six Nations just around the corner as he looks full of confidence going into 2023.

This footage posted by Leinster shows just how difficult he is to stop in close quarters and Larmour will hope it’s the start of a great year on the rugby field.

He is set to have a battle on his hands for a starting spot in green though, with Mack Hansen, James Lowe, Jimmy O’Brien and others going hard for shirts.

But in this kind of mood and with a few more solid performances for Leinster, Larmour’s versatility and quality is highly likely to be utilised by boss Farrell.
