Wrestling Legend & Mae Young Classic Star Meiko Satomura Made History for Women in Japan Tuesday Night

38-year-old joshi puro veteran Meiko Satomura, who will be competing in the upcoming WWE Mae Young Classic tournament, made history in Japan this week.

While competing for the DDT Pro group in Tokyo, Satomura defeated 41-year-old Danshoku Dino to become the first woman in history to hold the promotion’s top singles title, the KO-D Openweight Championship.

It was later announced that she would headline DDT’s return to Korakuen Hall in September, making even more history by defending the title in a triple threat match against both Dino and Shigehiro Irie.

Satomura, considered one of the best female wrestlers in the world today – and potentially the best when you consider she’s been on a different level for more than two decades – joins the ranks of former KO-D Openweight Champions including Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Dick Togo, Daisuke Sekimoto, El Generico (Sami Zayn) and Sami Callihan.
